Task Overview
Mike Golf Security & Investigation was asked to provide a Behavioural Detection Officer (BDO) as part of a comprehensive security operation during two NFL games held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London. With over 60,000 attendees expected each weekend, the NFL required a sophisticated security framework to ensure the safety of everyone present.
A Behavioural Detection Officer requires expertise in covert surveillance, counter-terror tactics, and heightened security awareness, combined with the ability to assess human behaviour in high-pressure situations. Effective communication with team members in a timely, discreet manner and maintaining accurate records for evidential purposes are also critical skills for this role.
Our BDO was one of a team of highly skilled BDOs who played a key role in the larger operation over both weekends, working closely with police, private security, and NFL-appointed personnel.
Objective
Our task was twofold: to spot and report any suspicious behaviour that deviated from the established baseline and to remain alert for discarded or unattended items such as bags, which could pose security risks. The aim was to prevent crime and counter potential terror threats in a high-traffic environment, while maintaining seamless communication with other security units to ensure quick reporting and coordination when necessary.

The challenge for the BDO team was to monitor vast crowds and distinguish unusual behaviour in a high-energy setting, where fan excitement could blur the lines between normal and suspicious activity.
